This program introduces concepts of American history, culture and arts. The program is designed for partnership with Tacoma Public Schools and Libraries. This program sparks interest in learning in a fun, age-appropriate way. The program looks back at American culture and life styles of 1866 and the rough life in comparison today.
The museum created five short stories that feature the artwork of Frederic Remington based on paintings:
1. “Horsepower: The Real Deal” – What was it like when horses were the only form of transportation available?
2. “Living in the Old West” – What was it like to grow all your food?
3. “Priority Water” – What was it like to have limited access to water without modern plumbing or infrastructure?
4. “Travelling the West” – What was it like to have to essentially camp all the time?
5. “Wayfinding in the Old West” – How did people navigate without the modern tools like GPS or maps?
The Buffalo Soldiers Museum supports the community wide goal of reducing the achievement gap between families of affluence and families in poverty. This program helps every child become kindergarten ready. We are community partners in the enhancement, awareness, appreciation and patronage of the Arts, Heritage and Culture offerings.
